Five of the Best Cycling Sunglasses for Summer

Raise your glasses – we look at five of the best road cycling glasses and their technology for this summer.

Sunglasses, whether worn on the bike or off it, are a big fashion statement. The golden era saw Fausto Coppi don a pair of Persol sunglasses on the white roads of Tuscany. Then, when roads got tarmacked, riders stopped wearing them altogether. That all changed in the 1980s when after the invention of clipless pedals, sunglasses were the epitome of cycling chic. The trend was led by the brands like Briko, Rudy Project and a fledgling American brand, Oakley.

Here are our top five of the best cycling sunglasses for summer:

Oakley Jawbreaker Mark Cavendish Edition

The Jawbreaker is the latest offering from megabrand, Oakley. Oakley, utilising its sponsorship with our very own ‘Manx Missile’, launched the sunglasses last season, as well as one of Cavendish’s well-timed sprints and they’ve been a hit with customers ever since.

The frames are made from Oakley’s super tough O Matter material and the lenses are produced from Plutonite. This combination ensures the greatest eye protection for the wearer. And let’s face it, they look pretty neat too.

They come with Oakley’s Prizm lenses, which lead the way in terms of tech, and for fit, the frame has three adjustable temple lengths.

POC Do Blade Raceday Larsson Edition

When Ryder Hesjedal first wore “those sunglasses” at the 2013 Tour de France, POC became one of the most divisive companies in cycling. The following season, it launched its POC Octal helmet, which again, divided opinion. One thing is for certain, love it or hate it, POC is revered as one of the coolest companies in cycling right now.

The Poc DO Blade Raceday Larsson Edition are made from a durable frame that has been injected with Grilamid, to give them an excellent weight to strength ratio and flexibility for switching out the lenses.
